About Me

I'm Cathy Conrad, and I've been attuned to Reiki since 2010, when I learned of this Japanese technique in an effort to help a beloved cat of mine. It definitely brought comfort and peace to my little one. While Reiki has been known to heal, it is usually thought of as a complementary therapy. What it will definitely do, is relax you, physically and emotionally. If you have problems with sleep, it will help with that.  The practitioner is "attuned"  to handle a greater flow of chi, which is universal life-force energy. You and I and every living thing has this within.

Reiki will help animals as well as people. I have seen it calm and comfort pets in distress and help soothe feral cats in a foster program.  I will give Reiki treatments to animals, in person or at a distance, as well as to people.

What can you expect from a Reiki treatment? I will have you either sit in a comfortable chair or lie down, depending on what you're most comfortable with. While some Reiki practitioners give hands-on treatment, I hover my hands over the body several inches. It seems to have a stronger effect in my case. I begin at the head and shoulders. Given the intent, chi will flow through me to you. I follow the line of the chakras, from crown to root, plus work on arms and legs/feet. If you are having pain or challenges in a particular area, I will then focus on that.  I advise up to an hour for full effect, but if you wish a shorter time that will still help.

For animals, I usually do half an hour of projecting the energy from a short distance. I always watch the animal's body language closely to see how the energy is received. If a pet backs off from it, I will give it a break, then start again.

In time, I plan to offer Reiki classes with attunements.

About Reiki

In the early 1900s, Mikao Usui was a devout Buddhist physician who wanted to know how people like Jesus or the Buddha healed by the mere laying on of hands. He studied, he spoke with learned people, and his journey finally ended--and began--on a retreat at Mt. Kurama. Fasting for days, he had a spiritual experience that left him with the Reiki symbols which activated a healing energy. Each Reiki master since then traces their lineage back to him.
